Returning for his fourth appearance at 54 Below, Jonathan Poretz, the San Francisco Bay Area’s favorite crooner, will channel Bobby Darin’s swagger and swing with an all-new, high intensity show, “Happy Birthday, Bobby: Darin at 90!,” commemorating Darin on what would have been his actual 90th birthday. The show makes its world debut on Thursday, May 14, 2026 at 7 pm.

Many consider Bobby Darin to be one of the greatest showmen and entertainers who ever graced a stage. A celebrated singer, songwriter, multi-instrument musician, and Oscar-nominated actor, Darin could really do it all. Now, with the success of “Just In Time,” the Tony nominated show about Darin’s life, which starred Jonathan Groff in the lead role, Darin, a NYC native, has finally become the King of Broadway, some 53 years after his way too-early death.

Poretz is no stranger to the music of Bobby Darin, having created and starred in “Sinatra vs. Darin: Sex, Swagger & Swing,” which he’s performed at nightclubs and theaters throughout California as well as to a sold-out audience at 54 Below in 2019.

Among the nearly two dozen songs featured in this musical tribute are some of Darin’s most beloved and well-known hits, including: “Beyond The Sea,” “Mack The Knife,” “As Long As I’m Singing,” “Splish Splash,” “Dream Lover,” “Clementine,” “Artificial Flowers,” “Sunday In New York,” “The Curtain Falls,” and many more.

Accompanying Poretz will be an all-star, three horn mini-big band, featuring some of Broadway’s most in-demand pit players, as well as some of the first call musicians who help make NYC the jazz capital of the world.

On December 12, 2025, the world will celebrate what would have been the 110th birthday of Frank Sinatra. On May 14, 2026, we will celebrate what would have been Bobby Darin’s 90th. Combined that’s 200 years of swagger and swing, from two of the greatest singers of the Great American Songbook. And with the new spotlight on Bobby Darin, a result of the Broadway hit, “Just In Time,” Bobby is finally getting his due, some 57 years after his way too early passing.

For nearly two decades, Jonathan Poretz, the Bay Area’s favorite crooner, has brought them together in his highly acclaimed show, Sinatra vs. Darin! Now he returns with an all-new show: Sinatra & Darin: 200 Years of Swagger and Swing!

Backed by his super swingin’ Mini-Big Band, Poretz will power pack this two-hour show with the very best songs from the Sinatra and Darin repertoires.

The Fil Lorenz Orchestra is a high-voltage, crowd-pleasing large ensemble born of the blues, with a sound defined by a searing, relentless horn section and an exhilarating, sometimes challenging repertoire of well-known burners and fascinating originals alike. To put it simply, the FLO can turn any club or festival performance into jazz/blues/bop celebration.

Saxophonist/arranger Lorenz has assembled a musical cast of the highest standard, bringing some of the San Francisco Bay Area’s most accomplished and adventurous jazz veterans together with some of the fertile San Francisco scene’s most promising up-and-coming players.
